PBS KIDS: PLUM LANDING

PBS KIDS' PLUM LANDING CELEBRATES SUMMER LEARNING AND EXPLORING THE GREAT OUTDOORS

ENGAGE KIDS IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE USING BRAND NEW PLUM LANDING WEBSITE

With school finally out, parents are looking for activities to keep their kids happily learning during the summer break. What better way to do this than with PLUM LANDING, a new PBS KIDS digital property that lets 6- to 9-year-olds and their families explore and experience nature through a rich collection of free and engaging standards-based games, videos, and  hands-on activities to do online as well as outdoors?

On the PLUM LANDING website, kids and their families can join Plum, a purple alien from Planet Blorb, and her five earthling friends on an epic exploration of Planet Earth. They can travel and explore, observe and create, play, and discover their way across exotic ecosystems-rafting through a Belizean swamp, tracking a thorny devil across the Australian sands, or going face-to-face with a tree snake in Borneo. Kids and families are also encouraged to investigate their OWN worlds closer to home.

To help kick-off their missions, there's  Plum's Photo Hunt App (for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch), a free photo-sharing app that gets kids taking pictures of nature, and sending photos of their discoveries back to Plum. A selection of these photos is then displayed on the PLUM LANDING website. The app also allows "photo bombs" of the different PLUM LANDING characters to be added to their pictures.

Parents can also check out tips in Get Outdoors with Your Family-And Sneak in Some Science, Too!, and join the PLUM LANDING community on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, and YouTube. PLUM LANDING is proud to be partnering with organizations that share our mission of getting kids exploring the outdoors. These include the American Camp Association, EcoTarium, US Forest Service, National Recreation and Parks Association, and National Summer Learning Association.
