I went with a basic sugar cookie recipe and made classic royal icing with confectioners' sugar, meringue powder, warm water and lemon juice. I tend to do things semi-homemade so instead tinting my icing for the designs, I used small tubes of decorating gels purchased from the grocery store. I know, I know...cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater!!!
