I love to cook and bake for my family. I really enjoy finding new and creative ways to serve up some of our favorite foods. Bacon is a big deal in my home. We all love bacon! When I found out that there was a recipe book called "Fifty Shades of Bacon", I just had to have a copy! "Fifty Shades of Bacon" was published by CreateSpace which is an independent publisher platform that allows authors to circumvent traditional publishing routes. This book, which is a parody of the highly popular "Fifty Shades of Gray" novel, is pure genius. The recipes are separated by adult themed chapters. The appetizers are found under "Foreplay" while the main courses are under "Afternoon Delight". I love that!
The recipe that I chose to feature here on my site is found under the breakfast chapter called "The Morning Wood". I made Bacon Pancake Donuts from page 42 of the book. I chose this recipe because I love donuts and I just received a donut maker for Christmas and couldn't wait to use it!
In my Apple Pie post I had mentioned making healthier choices in 2013 in regards to food and ingredients. In this breakfast donut recipe I chose to use a whole wheat pancake mix for the donuts and I substituted the regular syrup with a sugar-free syrup for the donut glaze recipe. I also used turkey bacon in lieu of pork bacon. These slight variations allowed me to enjoy my breakfast donut without feeling guilty!
These breakfast donuts were so easy to make! I poured the batter into my donut maker and in just a few minutes, they were ready. The glaze for the donuts is a simple frosting made with powdered sugar, milk and syrup. Once the donuts cooled, I dipped them into the glaze and topped them with crumbled bacon...Voila! Bacon Pancake Donuts!
There are 50 recipes in this wonderful cookbook with bacon as the star of the show. From breakfast to desserts, you will definitely find a recipe that will make the bacon lover in your family a very happy camper.
