For decades, Kona coffee production on the Big Island of Hawaii resulted in a byproduct of the Kona coffee fruit around the coffee bean, with more than 40 million pounds typically discarded annually. Hawaii’s KonaRed is altering this situation, providing the coffee industry and its farmers a market for this previously unused fruit of the Kona coffee plant.
